In addition to deploy Office recently for iPad, Microsoft today also updated Office Mobile for iPhone and Android with strange changes : for both platforms, the package is now completely free for home use (private use)!
Microsoft said the decision was made to equate both operation and accessibility for users of all major mobile platforms such as Windows Phone, iOS and Android. As a result, a change in approach to the sharing way application, Office Mobile now lets users view but more over importantly also edit content, and it's completely free. Without previously required the Subscription Office 365!
No new features have been issued today. The only change is the freely available edition. For both iOS and Android platforms, the functionality is exactly the same, here is what is written in the changes :
- Office Mobile is free for home use.
- Stability fixes and improvements.
The statement "Home use" indicates that the enterprise is likely to matter quite differently, but that's a different story. Wonder how they will be achieved when the employee from enterprise install this application on a mobile device, and will say that uses it only for private purposes...
Probably this move from Microsoft is the answer to providing completely free iWorks suite for Apple's mobile devices and free office suite QuickOfice by Google.
